Agriculture of Darlington
Farms
There are over 300 farms in Darlington County. The sizes of these farms range from one acre to over one thousand acres and are home to a variety of different crops and animals. The majority of farmland is used for crops – roughly 64% – while the other land is used for woodland and other uses. The vast majority of farmers are Caucasian males.
Crops
Cotton is king in Darlington County. The amount of cotton grown in Darlington County ranks us 2nd in the state of South Carolina for our cotton yield, third for corn, and fourth for wheat and soybeans.
Livestock
Darlington County is the number one ranking county in the state for ducks, third for layers, and sixth for turkeys.
